NOTHING LIGHTS UP A CHILD’S BRAIN LIKE PLAY! - Stuart Brown
Since 1970, Cheverly Weekday Nursery has served local families and our community. From its inception, our program has been play-based. Current research now supports what we have known all along: children’s learning outcomes are higher when they engage in a high-quality ,play-based pre-kindergarten program.
Children are naturally motivated to play. Our program builds on that and uses play as a context for learning. Children can explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in multiple free-play areas, including water, sand, and light tables, arts and crafts, dramatic play, building blocks, manipulative games and toys, science and nature, story and music circles. We teach children how to BE learners,.
In a world where academic skills are viewed as a priority, such as the ABC’s, colors, and 1,2,3’s, recent research from American Academy of Pediatrics reaffirms the power of play as a greater predictor of future success than traditional academic programs.
Social emotional skills develop early and are essential for learning in a classroom setting and beyond. At WDN , children learn to take turns, think independently, be considerate, deal with difficult emotions, pay attention, and how to be peers who listen to and interact positively with their classmates.
We provide children with a place to grow outside the home, helping our students learn more about themselves in relation to the world around them. We are a team of highly trained teachers who nurture our students’ genuine curiosity and creativity and equip them with skills to succeed in the years ahead.
